Next for U.S. Fed: Consumer Loans

New TARP facility to provide lending for consumer loans
The U.S. Federal Reserve and the U.S. Treasury have been known during this credit crisis for setting up a variety of lending facilities. Now the TARP plan is about get another expansion: into consumer loans.

Since one of the problems with the current credit market crisis is that consumer financing has slowed, the Federal Reserve aims to "fix" the problem by providing loans to investors who want to buy securities backed by:
  • Student loans
  • Credit cards
  • Auto loans
